With the fourth day of competition and two successful events, 9th edition of the international regatta for Olympic classes Split Olympic Sailing Week came to its end. .
After the bitter cold and the NE wind which the competitors had to deal with the last few days, Split aquatorium offered plenty of sunshine today along with the SE wind in 12-14 knots and much better sailing conditions.
We must admit that the favourites took these ideal sailing conditions to their full advantage, starting with Tina Mihelić from the host club of this event which included 70 yachtsmen from 12 countries (France, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic, Ireland, Slovenia, Montenegro, Estonia, Cyprus, Poland, Italy and Croatia). She was simply unbeatable with six wins from six events and 0 penalty points while Toma Stipanović and Stjepan Vuletić, both from SK Mornar came in second and third
Another favourite who met our expectations was Croatia's best finn representative Ivan Kljaković-Gašpić, who recorded three first places and two second places which annulled his penalty points from the only event he didn't finish due to rudder problems. Another young representative from Labud, Josip Olujić came in second while Milan Vujasinović from SK Split came in third which is a great achievement considering that Milan has been sailing in this class for only a month.
In the regatta field towards the cape of Čiovo there were some changes in the lead in class 470. In today's first and total fifth event, Slovenian crew Andraž Gulič-Mitja Nevečny came in first and in the last event of this year's edition of SOSW Italian crew Simon Košuta Sivitz and Jaš Farnetti won, which was enough for them to take the overall lead.
We would also like to give a big shout out to our girls, members of Uskok from Zadar Enia Ninčević and Romana Župan, who came in third as the best ranked ladies!
As we predicted yesterday, the biggest uncertainty before today's events was in laser classes. Amongst the 22 competitors in standard it all came down to nuances. The title was won by Croatian Olympian Tonči Stipanović from SK Mornar, and representatives of SK Labud Daniel Mihelić came in overall second . Croatian competitors allowed our guest from Poland Kacperu Zieminskom to only get as high as the third place, while the Olympic silver medallist from London Pavlos Kontides from Cyprus finished in fourth place..
After the medal ceremony, regatta director Karlo Kuret invited all participants to come back to the 10th edition of the Split Olympic Sailing Week next year when we will also celebrate the 90th birthday of Croatia's oldest sailing club - SK Labud.
