First day of racing was marked by the marina full of sails waiting to go but due to lack of wind majority of sailors spent their time waiting, checking the weather pages or shopping.
This morning more entries were confirmed and at 10:00 when the registration closed there was 21 competitors in Laser Radial, 38 competitors in Laser, 25 competitors in FInn, 10 teams in 470 and 7 competitors in RSX , making the total of 101 boats from 12 European countries.
First day of Split Olympic Sailing Week - the organizers had no luck with conditions. Beautiful sunny day without a breath of wind, unfortunately, has not offered possibility to start the competition. Many domestic and foreign sailors have spent the day in anticipation of the wind.
Competition will therefore start tomorrow, first start is scheduled for 11 hours. Forecast is predicting light south winds so possibility of postponement remains for tommorow as well.
"Nothing bad has happened! We have still enough racing days to complete the event. Tomorrow we are expecting better conditions and thus the beginning of the competition. Race area is likely to be a little farther from the coast, which is normal for Olympic sailing classes, but not too far from the eyes of the spectators who will be able to observe from Sustipan hill"
Karlo Kuret , Split Olympic Sailing Week race director
