thumb_flota2_nFrom Thursday 17th of March to Sunday 20th of March Croatia and Split are hosting the seventh edition of Split Olympic Sailing Week, the pinnacle event for all olympic classes at the beginning of season in Europe.

 

The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race for the first class on each race course is 10:00 on March 18th.

While bad weather , rain and gale force southeasterly,  kept the sailors on shore, it was very busy day for race office. More than 100 crews completed registration on opening day.

sosw_2011_jumboY.C Labud has presented today the program for the VII. Split Olympic Sailing Week, one of the TOP 10 World regatta for the Olympic classes held in Split March 16th-20th. Press conference was opened by the SOSW project manager, renown Croatian Olympic sailor, Karlo Kuret and later the gathered members of the press had an opportunity to hear from European champions Tina Mihelić , Ivan Kljaković Gašpić-Bambi and Tonči Stipanović as well as legendary Croatian sailor Mate Arapov. All these sailors are members of the Split's sailing clubs, the co organizers of the regatta.
Week before the start of the SPLIT OLYMPIC SAILING WEEK number of entered  participants is 30% higher than last year's final number. Significantly higher number of entries  delights as does the fact that among entries are representatives from 15 countries ( CRO, FRA, CZE, HUN, SLO,RUS, UKR, SRB, CYP, NED, ITA, AUT, POL, MNE ), and majority of them will participate at the 2012. Olympic Games. This is great incentive for the organizer, who has received praises for previous year's organization of the regatta on water and land, to continues developing this sailing spectacle.
In his address to the media Karlo Kuret stated:" I'm extremely delighted by the almost 100% response from the Croatian representatives and all other Croatian sailors especially since this is year before the Olympics so SOSW is an excellent opportunity to check what was done during this period and how well prepared are sailors for this pre olympic season. Our approach to the regatta organization was uncompromising which is obvious even in the jury members selection. One of them is Marianne Middelthon, concidered among the best in the world while Race committee is led by the IRO Alen Kustić."
At the end the organizer expressed its gratitude to the members of the press hoping that their reporting will give wind to their effort to aid the city of Split once again confirm its place as one of the world's  top sailing destinations.

During the regatta, each day, for all participants and their guests 3 different hot meals will be available for purchase at the club.
On Saturday March 19th 2011  BBQ will be organized at the club. Food is free of charge for all the participants and their coupons for entry will be handed out to them at the registration. Guests are also welcomed and can purchase coupons at the club.
